Ghana to Launch VAT Reward Scheme in 2026 to Boost Tax Compliance

Ghana is gearing up for a major shift in tax administration with the introduction of a National VAT Reward Scheme an initiative designed to motivate taxpayers and strengthen VAT compliance across the country.

The announcement was made by Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson during a working visit to the Large Taxpayer Office at the VAT House in Accra. He reiterated government’s commitment to improving revenue mobilisation, removing administrative obstacles, and modernising tax processes for greater efficiency.

How the VAT Reward Scheme Will Work

As part of the new scheme, VAT receipts collected by compliant taxpayers will be entered into national draws, giving citizens the chance to win attractive prizes.
The goal is simple:

  • Encourage Ghanaians to demand VAT receipts after every transaction
  • Reduce leakages in the VAT system
  • Strengthen transparency and accountability
  • Improve overall VAT revenue performance

Part of a Broader Tax Reform Agenda

The VAT Reward Scheme will roll out alongside several major tax administration reforms expected in 2026. These reforms include:

  • A redesigned and more efficient VAT system
  • Deployment of fiscal electronic devices (FEDs) to enhance data accuracy
  • Improved compliance monitoring for businesses
  • Strengthened transparency in VAT reporting

According to Dr. Forson, these combined efforts will help Ghana build a modern, fair, and efficient revenue system that supports the government’s agenda of Resetting for Growth, Job Creation, and Economic Transformation.

A Step Toward Smarter Revenue Mobilisation

The VAT Reward Scheme reflects Ghana’s ongoing drive to digitalise revenue processes, close compliance gaps, and ensure that taxpayers receive value for their contributions. As the reforms take shape next year, both businesses and consumers will play a critical role in promoting transparency and supporting sustainable national development.
