CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER (COO)

A leading and rapidly growing company in Ghana’s agro-processing and manufacturing sector is seeking a visionary and results-oriented Chief Operating Officer (COO) to join its executive leadership team. This pivotal role presents a unique opportunity for an accomplished leader to drive strategic growth, transformation, and operational excellence across a dynamic, multi-sector enterprise.
The COO will be responsible for formulating and executing the company’s internal operational strategies to achieve the goals and objectives defined by the Board of Directors. This includes the deliberate structuring and alignment of all internal management functions to support effective planning, execution, and performance monitoring.
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the COO will work in close collaboration with the CEO and maintain a dual reporting line to the Board of Directors. The COO will oversee all functional heads and administrative leaders, ensuring seamless coordination across departments. The role also requires the COO to step into critical leadership functions as needed, particularly in the event of executive vacancies.

A. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
GENERAL ADMIN
1. Must be in regular attendance at the workplace, establishing/ grounding the presence of authority and leadership, which is essential to the job position, in compliance to/ with company policies and procedures and ethical conduct at all times.
2. Provides day-to-day operational leadership and support to staff that mirrors the mission and core values of the Company and its affiliates through the application/ practice of excellent level of personal and professional integrity.
3. Superintend, as the principal lead for general management members in their day-to-day business operations by developing implementing and managing general and technical operational policies and procedures.
4. Explore how to find/ create and provide applicable/ adaptable solutions to complex operational and administrative problems by breaking down complicated issues and communicating effectively to the BoD, and executive management (C-Suite memberships) and general staff. Also maintain, and/ or develop a more effective communications and reporting line/ system to the BoD in/ with effective partnership of all C-Suite.
5. Read and vet all submitted reports by general managers to reward performance, prevent issues and resolve problems
6. Delegate responsibilities and supervise the work of company executives, providing guidance and motivation to drive maximum performance
7. Support in the management of internal funding/ grant activities necessary for achieving day-to-day operational targets and outcomes; including financial auditing and accounting outcomes.
8. Expected to work with keyboard appointed committees related to specific operations aimed at assisting with reaching set goals and expectations of the company.
9. Ensure administrative compliance of all legal and regulatory requirements related to the operations of the company; certifications, corporate fillings, financial audits etc. per governing laws and regulations of Ghana, practice acceptable and internal company policies enshrined.
OPERATIONS
1. Operation responsibilities of the COO is to collaborate with the C-Suite in managing and executing strategic plans for the organization both ongoing and emerging. These include.
• Deliberate engagement of C-Suite executive for their collaboration and support with regular data(information) for compiling reports for the attention of the Board
• Must ensure to administer and account for the creation and management of all key budgets, financial reports, and capitals of the company, and regularly keep monitoring of monthly reports of the finance function to assure that revenue targets are met, and expenses are controlled and instrument the necessary actions (KPI linked) / precautions to improve performance and achieve fiscal goals.
• Generally, oversee and ensure development, implementation and maintenance of best practices for governance, financial operations, human capital management, plant operations and other relatable functions
• Guide the planning and formulation of the long-range goals of the organization and provide timely, accurate, and complete reports to the BOD on agency performance and yields input from the CEO when compiling information.
• Ensure that all programs and departments meet the short-term and long-range plans, and budgets based on defined company goals and growth objectives set or as may be determined by the BOD as and when necessary, and with collaborative input from the CEO
B. BASIC CORPORATE & BEHAVIORAL SKILL/ ABILITY REQUIREMENT
1. Enthusiasm and passion for governance, professionalism and corporate mission.
2. Extensive work experience with entrepreneurial based business type
3. Have strong employment and or service history that reflects leadership, managing high level operations, teams and public engagement.
4. Professional communication and presentation, information processing and maintenance skills
5. Demonstrable leadership abilities; confidence, self-drive and executive presence, for business deliberations and negotiations with business partners or publics
6. A critical analyst, creative-thinker and problem-solver with emotional intelligence skills necessary for sound decision making, logical interpretations
7. Proficient knowledge and use of IT office equipment and relatable technology software and programs; computer, spreadsheets, analytical and data management, project management software and applications as well as some graphic and presentation programs.
8. Strong skills are set in prioritizing, strategizing, meeting deadlines and following up on assignments and roles and responsibilities with minimum supervision.
C. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT
1. Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, economics, or closely related field which will provide knowledge of the principles, practices and governance of business
2. Minimum 6+ years or the equivalent work experience in similar executive role experience directly involved with operations, business, development, finance or related areas.
3. Demonstrated knowledge of FMCG business management, factory / manufacturing governance and related services.
4. Well-travelled, with relevant industry exposure.
5. Work under pressure of deadlines and continual interruptions in attention.
6. Ability to work under high temperatures, noise, heavy duty equipment.
7. Driving experience
8. Multi-lingual; English / French / German
D. WORKING CONDITIONS:
1. Regularly 8hrs/ day (office hours are M-F, 8:30am – 5pm)
